EMBO Workshop

Chromatin structure, organization
and dynamics

12 - 16 September | 2020 | Prague | Czech Republic

Due to the Coronavirus Sars-CoV-2, it was impossible to organize the EMBO workshop „Chromatin Structure, Organization and Dynamics“ in this year 2020. Importantly, the EMBO agreed to change the organizing of the EMBO workshop for 2021. The new 2021 EMBO workshop „Chromatin Structure, Organization and Dynamics“ will be held from Sunday, August 29 till Thursday, September 2, in Prague.

The webpages of the new 2021 EMBO workshop will be ready from July, 2020.

With best regards, Ivan Raška

About

Principal themes and objectives of the workshop

Chromatin structure, organization and dynamics underlie essentially every aspect of cell function. Rapid advances in recent years in imaging- and sequencing-based methods and in structural tools, such as Cryo-EM, resulted in breakthroughs in our understanding of the spatial and temporal organization of chromatin and its functions. The aim of this workshop is to bring together experienced scientists, Ph.D. students, and postdoctoral fellows working on the functional organization and dynamics of the nucleus and chromatin in diverse cellular processes. Our goal is to establish an informal and intimate atmosphere (120 participants in total), in which oral and poster presentations by students and postdoctoral fellows, from selected abstracts, will be complemented by lectures delivered by leading researchers in the field. The speakers will present exciting recent work, discuss their perspectives on future developments, and highlight the existing conceptual views and technical problems in the area. The lectures will be organized in 8 sessions and will be complemented by 2 poster sessions.

List of topics

  • Chromatin organization and gene regulation
  • Chromatin regulation
  • Genome organization in developmental and disease
  • Genome stability and DNA repair
  • Epigenetics pathways
  • Transcription regulation
  • Nuclear envelope organization and function
  • Nuclear structure and dynamics

Outline of workshop

Two plenary lectures will be delivered by Dr. Genevieve Almouzni and Dr. William C. Earnshaw on Saturday, September 12th. Lectures delivered by invited speakers and by speakers selected from submitted abstracts will be organized in 8 sessions and will form the core of the workshop. Poster presentation sessions will be held on Sunday, September 13th and on Monday September 14th. Posters will be displayed for the entire duration of the workshop in order to provide more opportunity for scientific discussion and interaction among participants.

Awards

Information concerning the 3 best posters will be announced later.

Important note

The Journal Nucleus (see
https://www.tandfonline.com/action/journalInformation?show=aimsScope&journalCode=kncl20) will put together a special issue on the workshop, edited by Ivan Raška, Cristina Cardoso, Eva Bártová and Mikhail Eltsov. We will offer speakers and selected contributors to the workshop the opportunity to publish original research articles and reviews on the presented topics in this issue.

We look forward to welcoming you
to the Czech Republic!
